Earth Day 2025
On Sunday April 27th some of our neighbors volunteered at the annual work day to clean up our roadways, Lake George and Brinton Park. The roadway team tackled Little Egypt Road and Harvest Lane and collected 10 bags of trash. Discarded alcohol beverage cans and bottles were the most common things collected. At Lake George we continued removing invasive plants that are crowding out our native species. This year we concentrated on removing the large Autumn Olive and Burning Bush shrubs in the area near the fishing dock. We can already see native wildflowers returning to the areas that were cleared last year and expect to see this natural restoration continue. And finally at Brinton Park the small but mighty crew cleaned up all the yard debris, trimmed trees and raked leaves. The broken-down fence posts were removed to make way for future Brinton Park improvements.
We would like to make more improvements but are in desperate need of volunteers to help our small returning crew each year. If we were to get just a few hours from our fellow neighbors to work together to keep our shared neighborhood spaces beautiful and vibrant for everyone to enjoy it would make all the difference. By working together, both long-time neighbors and newly arrived can contribute to the beauty and enjoyment of our community.
We are fortunate to have these common areas in our neighborhood for everyone to enjoy and thank you for your support in maintaining them. If you would like to have your name added to our Earth Day list to receive notifications of future work days, please reach out to Kathy Gibney at dkja@comcast.net.
